Bluesky, using ATProto, which as near as I can tell is not used by anyone else, is not part of the fediverse as a result. Since both ActivityPub, and ATProto, and for that matter also Zot, are all open sourced protocols, it is my hope someone will build bridge software that incorporates and provides interoperability between both. Hubzilla would seem an ideal place for that to happen since that is already it’s role, to bridge multiple protocols.

@sun_is_ra Oh definitely related, it was working ok under 22.04 not 24.04, but I suspect it has something to do with decoder ffmpeg, as other applications using it also have issues with H.264 v10 video. However Thorium does not. Perhaps it has it’s own decoder rather than using ffmpeg.

@CameronDev No, but there was a time that was the norm. There also was a time that triple-DES was the encryption standard. But again those times a 100Mhz single core CPU was a high end CPU.

@entropicdrift It is not a complete build, many codecs are not compiled in.

@griefstricken I see useful things happen on Reddit, can’t say I’ve seen a parallel in Lemmy so far. And I’m not sure I can get it to run in the configuration I want to, which is to say having it NOT on the same machine as the web server proxy or database.

@possiblylinux127 @theunknownmuncher I know it might hurt your brain but it is helpful to fully understand an issue to understand the other sides perspectives.

“The Only caveat is that the free version of DR on Linux can’t work with H.264 or H.265 encoded files.” this actually again depends upon ffmpeg and can be fixed by compiling these protocols into it. The free version does whatever ffmpeg does because it uses it for it’s codec.

@Max_P @mfat I don’t like picture oriented Desktops, just a lot of shit competing with workspace, rather have simple drop down menus which is why I stick with Mate. Although a Doc like in MacOS isn’t bad, and Mate does support this, it still eats up space I’d rather use for work.
