Here to follow content related to Star Trek, Linux, open-source software, and anything else I like that happens to have a substantial Lemmy community for it.

F-Droid is the more valuable app store anyway. I always check there before Google Play.
For the future, it’s probably best to post to Lemmy communities from a Lemmy, kbin, or Friendica account; otherwise you risk the formatting of your message getting badly messed up, as it has here. It’s cool that you can post here from Mastodon but that doesn’t make it a good idea.
It would also have helped if you included some description with your link.
Well, Linux is 32 years old; GNU goes back to 1984, and Unix all the way back to 1970! The history of this OS is much older than Linus Torvalds’s involvement; he “only” created and maintains the most popular kernel.
But yes, happy birthday to Linux. Many thousands have contributed to making this operating system what it is today and they all have my utmost thanks for it.
This is weirdly common, from what I’ve heard. You’d think it would be obvious that a disorder (or neurotype, or whatever you call autism) requires accommodation, which requires self-advocacy, which requires being allowed to know what’s going on with you.
This is nice but there are already tons of “how/why to start using Linux” websites. Not sure if we need another one.
If you’re using Debian stable, hopefully you fully expect and want not to get major software updates until long after they release, in exchange for a more predictable system.
I’m excited for Plasma 6 but I’m very willing to wait for it, and stick to 5.27 as a daily driver for the next year.
This really bothers me. Closed standards locked behind a licensing fee may as well not be standards at all, in my opinion.
Debian Stable, in my experience, can stay online for months, even over a year, with very little attention, and still work as well as you left it. You can also install RHEL or a rebuild, like AlmaLinux, RockyLinux, or Oracle Linux, as a workstation distro.
As for the device, my use case is fairly different so I’m not sure what to suggest. Maybe an Intel NUC, or a Framework laptop.
While this new display certainly seems better (in terms of being able to use 2x scaling instead of my current 1.25x), I’d honestly prefer to have a cheaper option that’s just 1920x1280, so I don’t have to use scaling at all. I don’t care that much how “crisp” text looks.
Now I’m (tentatively) excited to see how they’ll outdo a season with a novel gimmick in each and every episode, including a musical and a crossover with a parody show, in terms of gimmicky weirdness.
