I blame social media and algorithms. My teen son for the longest time was leaning further and further right due to the content he was getting served on YouTube. He was making disparaging comments about women and how stupid they are. My wife and I who lean left had to sit down and have a talk with him about what he was saying and videos that he was getting served by YouTube (that popular red pill girl, I canāt remember her name and andrew tate among other red pill stuff). Heās a pretty smart kid, once we showed him data and articles that directly proved all the things he was watching wrong, he started to come around. Heās been careful to believe things that he sees or hears on the internet more now. Occasionally, heāll bring things to us that we have to double take and fact check to see if itās wrong.
When is this happening? Iāve been telling my wife and kid that they need to stop using chrome for a year, but ublock is still working for them and blocking YouTube ads. They are the type that wonāt switch until it becomes a problem for them.
Good Mythical Morning
At some point they got so popular that I just felt like they sold out. I felt like I was just watching 1 giant ad with all of their videos trying to get me to buy something. Also, some of their rants that they started going on got annoying. Seemed like at some point they lost the chemistry that they had together. I just enjoyed watching their banter and them doing goofy stuff.
Me: Iām in IT (trying to keep it simple)
Them: OK, but what do you do in IT?
Me: Iām a system administrator (again trying to keep it simple)
Them: I donāt know what that means. What does a system administrator do?
Me: I work on servers (again, trying to keep it simple)
Them: Whatās a server?
Me: Iām in ITā¦
