I hate the boys and girls can’t be friends trope that pops up in media.
Same. I think if the title was just “Can Friendship Between Men and Women Exist?” it would be fine since it’s leaving it open, but the “(No, it doesn’t!)” answer spoils it.
Also, I feel like the characters look just like characters from another anime. Or it could just be that they’re so generic as to be indistinguishable from other blue-hair anime girls/black hair anime boy.
I finally caught up on the last couple episodes. I was worried after the Marcus arc this anime was going to get sour, but no, I actually really like where this is going, even if they’re just searching for a McGuffin by means of the magic school trope. I guess I just like seeing Veltol put in “normal” situations and then acting super ridiculous.
I must admit the “familiar-looking employee” caught me by surprise. Usually I can see stuff like that coming but in this case it blindsided me. “Lets get the one with the biggest boobs” XD
Hmmm… you do have very valid points.
And Noel’s Strategist subclass/specialization seemed to come with skills that were tailor made to defeat such a foe, or was it vice versa?
If we take into account that Noel was manipulating things behind the scenes, it makes more sense. But you’re right, it does feel like lazy writing.
In particular, I don’t recall the Link ability being revealed earlier, so it feels like a deus ex machina.
Oh yeah, I found that totally odd as well. They definitely didn’t reveal it before. And they had supposedly been practicing a lot with it so it definitely felt like they pulled it out of nowhere. Definitely the worst part of the episode. I guess it didn’t affect my judgement as much because I assumed Noel would pull something out of his butt anyway? He had already foreseen Blue Beyond winning the challenge.
Conversely, Leon’s supposed to be this amazing Talker, same class as Noel, and same B rank I think(?), so what was his subclass/specialization, what abilities came with that and why weren’t they useful?
Leon’s a Knight or a Guardian or something, not a Talker. He’s not the same class as Noel, but he is B rank. So all his attacks were telegraphed cuz mind-reading. Although, he does have that angel wings insta-cast thing that should have been useful but he doesn’t use it? I don’t think they gave a good explanation for that.
Heh, I just noticed that Leon and Noel are each other’s name spelled backwards.
And they’re like, exact opposites! I hadn’t noticed either! Huh, go figure.
Well, I almost totally gave up on this series a while back so maybe my expectations are low and I’m satisfied with this level of narrative :p
Is… is that good? It doesn’t sound very good. I just hope this doesn’t send the message that there’s no market for anime movies domestically. I want us to get more anime in theaters, but I also had no real desire to go to the movies to watch a season 1 recap.
I’d prefer if we got more stuff like Your Name, not recaps and filler of existing anime. Although non-filler movies like Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul would be good too.
most isekai are basically fantasy with extra steps
Haha, true. And a lot of isekai is isekai in name only, where the fact he’s in another world NEVER comes up ever.
I do allow you to submit the nominations multiple times if you really want to nominate more than three things. 😉
Oh? Well there goes my afternoon… maybe… maybe not XD
Anyway, thanks for putting this together!
What a freaking cool episode. We got more insight into the test and it seems that I was correct in that Noel was pulling the strings for the test requirements behind the scenes. That also explains the penalty of having to disband the party if they fail the challenge, which would be overly harsh and seemingly not in line with the guild’s values. I suspect Noel is planning to recruit Leon afterwards to be Blue Beyond’s tank.
I predicted Blue Beyond would hang back at the start of the test, but this was pretty well executed:
We KNOW that Noel is going to be devious and sneaky, so of course he’s not going to race in to fight the boss. But the way Noel handled things was absolutely brilliant. I kept expecting some kind of trick or shady business to be revealed, but nothing of the sort happened. Instead, Noel predicted that the Winged Knights would not be able to beat the monster on their own and that Leon would betray his party by trying to do the “right” thing.
Then Blue Beyond shows up an hour later and basically starts wiping the floor with the monster. Leveled up Alma is ready to slaughter a monkey
I spent WAAAAAY too much time on MyAnimeList narrowing down my choices. I felt like there wasn’t a whole lot of suspense anime to pick from, and Adventure wasn’t a category. I also thought Isekai/Reincarnation would get its own category but I guess we can just lump that in with Fantasy for the most part.
Seriously though, in some categories I had a really hard time narrowing it down to just 3, and in others I left spots blank simply because there wasn’t much I had seen in that category at all. I guess that’s normal though.
A relatively silly episode with no insight into Akitsuakane, but still good.
Bilac makes some AWESOME gauntlets for Sunraku with the crystal scorpion parts.
How dare Sunraku blow off my girl Bilac like that though! Seriously, Bilac is like my favorite character. And you KNOW something silly is going to happen because Sunraku didn’t bother to RTFM with his gauntlets.
A huge part of the episode is a joke about who Sunraku is going to ask for help getting to Fiftica. We all knew it was going to be Rei/Psyger-0 but they tried to do the silly misdirect anyway.
The last bit of the episode is basically just a rundown of all the new skills Sunraku has as he fights the area boss.
One curious thing is that Sunraku’s level is “99 EXTEND” IIRC, 99 is the level cap and I don’t believe anyone else had “Extend” in their level. This is definitely setting up for some way for Sunraku to surpass the level cap so I’m interested in seeing how that plays out.
They’re still making this? Talk about trying to squeeze water from a stone. The original anime ended with finality (and lined up with the plot of the Manga) but they were like “oh no, we can’t let this cash cow die” and now we have a FOURTH extra season.
Oh boy, what a fantastic episode. Loved the pacing and the excitement.
First, Ren tells Kyoko about her crush on Kanata
Then Mami gets sad that Kanata never messaged her (because he lost her socials)
And finally completing the love triangle, Nozomi gives Kanata a shrine charm.
Oh, and racing qualifiers happen too. I love how they just briefly touched on the other racers and then show us what we really want to see: the reborn Turbo 86.
